Hi My name is Megs-Louise Owen. For many years I wanted to be a hairdresser, nothing else ever other than that! so before leaving school at 16 my mom got me a Saturday Job at the hair salon she went to. They took me on as an apprentice and I went to college part-time every Monday. I eventually qualified after 2 years at college and a year as a stylist. It was my career for many years a few different salons, management status in 2 of the salons I worked in and self-employment up until I had my first baby. I carried on being a mobile hairdresser until my 2nd baby who was totally different and wouldn’t be pacified by strangers bouncing him on their knee. So without thinking of the future I gave it all up and became a stay at home mom, which I must admit when they were little I really enjoyed. Having my 3rd and last baby made me think that there must be more to life than this..I always loved colouring books I had my own crayons no one was allowed to touch ( this is as an adult by the way!) and then I gave them my daughter when she was about 3 haha…I useto go to some evening creative classes at the local adult college and went for a coffee there one day and saw a mom of one of my daughters friends in the coffee shop. Her hands were black, I asked her what she had been doing..she told me she had been mono printing and how great it was and that I should go and see Roger about The Art Foundation course they ran at the college…which I did- I had NO portfolio but he could tell I was enthusiastic…and that started me on the road to my passion for art..It wasnt a greatly organised arts foundation and to be honest wasnt ran as a foundation should do really..but I got it after part-time of 3 years I could only do 4 hours at a time and tried to do 3 days a week. Had childcare at the college which my son loved and my other 2 kiddies were at school. So 13 years and an Art Foundation, HND Design Crafts and Foundation Degree later I managed to gain my final Art + Design Degree BA(Hons) – Phew plus many more certificates in creative studies and IT team work studies/business Studies and Customer Service certificates..
I am a member of an exciting new arts group – Oriel Scala in Prestatyn, with a fantastic New Gallery Shop as part of Prestatyns Scala Arts Centre. We have a Facebook group so please do take a look. Search Oriel Scala as simple as that! In September of 2009 I was really fortunate to be one of the chosen to take part in Antony Gormleys Fourth Plinth ‘OneandOther’ in Trafalgar Square London. I designed and made an outfit from an old tent. I am an avid recycler and thought I would use my hour to talk about recycling and consumerism. It didn’t work out quite as planned as I just really wanted to enjoy my hour without chatting away.
Below are my new range of Brooches. Each individually made not one the same. Colours vary however any colour combination could be made if you want anything specific. Commissions welcome.
